This is NOT the same Warriors team the Spurs decimated around this time last year. The Warriors are an impressive 5-2 at home, but the Spurs are the ONLY team that is undefeated on the road (7-0).

Golden State of Mind:

The Spurs are the best team in basketball right now. Betcha didn’t guess that would ever be written this year. They’re 14-2 and just won 12 in a row. Yikes. So how do you stop a team that can’t be stopped? I dunno. They’re Big 4, Manu, Parker, Timmy, and RJ, are playing well and they have some nice bench players such as George Hill and Antonio McDyess.

Pounding the Rock:

It looks like the Warriors have learned to play some defense….well, at least compared to last year’s team. They picked up rebounding machine, [David] Lee and now have somebody not named Nelson as their head coach. I’m not going to lie, watching Don Nelson coach was always entertaining to me. I’m sure part of it was that he never was coaching my team, thank God, but he’s just one of those guys who’s mannerisms are funny to me. I’m sure Golden State isn’t missing ol’ Don too much.

This is a very winnable game for the Spurs, but it could also be a little bit of a trap game. The Spurs will get back to running down the dream.

Tony Parker hasn’t had his best performances in the last two games. That being said, he’s still better than Stephen Curry. His defense will need to be on point against Curry who can hit anything that’s open and a lot that’s not. I’m sure we’ll see Hill helping out here. We might see Parker match up more with Ellis

The Sickness is still sick. Manu has been money all season long, I doubt Ellis can keep up with him in anything, but scoring. Manu is the complete player that Warrior fans wish Ellis would be come. I see Manu filling up the stat sheet and having a big game nonetheless.

Spurs Nation:

Spurs are off to franchise best 7-0 start on road, matching 2006-07 team, and are NBA’s lone remaining team unbeaten away from home. … Past two road wins, at Minnesota and New Orleans, required rallies from 21 and 17 points. … Spurs have won eight in a row against Golden State. … Ellis, NBA’s fifth-leading scorer at 24.6 ppg, averaged 38.7 in three games vs. Spurs last season.

Project Spurs:

Duncan has to set the tone on offense and open the lane for Ginobili, Parker, and Jefferson’s dribble penetrations. George Hill, Gary Neal and Matt Bonner should give the Spurs the needed spark from the bench.

Limit Ellis on offense, control the boards and close out the Warrior’s outside shooters.

Yahoo! Sports:

“For some strange reason we’ve been a second-half type of team – give up points in the beginning then lock down defense in the second half,” guard George Hill said. “If we can play defense the way we did in the second half … I think it’s going to be a scary year for everybody.”
