With both Denver and Portland winning last night, the Spurs were helped out immeasurably. Denver’s win over the Lakers (coupled with the Spurs win) gave the Spurs a 2 1/2 game cushion for first place with only 5 games to go (6 for the Lakers). That’s a much nicer cushion than 1 or 1 1/2 games.
And with Portland’s win over Dallas, the Spurs clinched the Southwest Division. Not a big deal for a franchise that plays for championships, but a nice little accomplishment nonetheless.
The West Playoffs are shaping up to be a wild ride, 1 through 8.
